6 December 2009, my wedding date

Guest what? The famous “fortune teller” that my mom was telling me is the famous Chinese Master that I heard so much from the internet and friends, Loh Tat Pit.

Weeks after the basic information was given to Loh Tat Pit, my mom gave them a call to obtain a list of auspicious date for my wedding. The auspicious dates for my wedding that given by Loh Tat Pit are……

To choose a date from the list given is not easy as we need to take care of everyone’s opinions. For example, I like to hold my wedding on Saturday because my friends and relatives from outstation need not to take leave on Monday or need not to rush back to their hometown right after my wedding dinner. It’s tiring! I don’t want my wedding turned up to be a tiring day for my friends and relatives.

After a few rounds of discussion, finally the date is set. Phew! 06.12.2009 is the date. My mom called Loh Pat Tit again to inform them that we have chosen 06.12.2009 so that they can do the rest of the calculations. My mom also confirmed that we will be going over to listen to the briefing on our “si san bat zi” on….

Basic information needed in choosing an auspicious wedding day

As I mentioned earlier, my mom just asked for our (my bf and I) date and time of birth, thinking that is adequate. Ring! Ring! Ring! My phone rang. My mom called to ask for my bf’s parents’ chinese name and zodiac. “Emmm… I don’t know”, I told my mom. Don’t misunderstand, I don’t know their chinese name (because I can’t read Chinese character) and not that I don’t know their name. So my mom called my bf for his parents name and zodiac.

Basic information needed in choosing an auspicious wedding day:-
- Bride’s name;
- Bride's date of birth;
- Bride's time of birth;
- Bridegroom's name;
- Bridgegroom's date of birth;
- Bridgegroom's time of birth;
- Both parents’ date of birth;
- Bridegroom’s parents' name;
- Roughly when you plan to have your wedding.

Choosing an auspicious date for my wedding

I’m engaged! Now, I’ve decided to tie a knot. The very first thing to do is choosing an auspicious date for my wedding. As my bf and I know that both our family are not very superstitious, therefore we decided to choose the wedding date on our own without consulting any chinese master. 20.09.2009 is the date! I love the date so much “20092009”. It is unique and easy to remember.

I thought that’s going to be my wedding date. Oh no! I need to postpone. 20.09.2009 is our national public holiday - Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Both parents will be busy in the “fasting” month and would have no time to help us in our preparation. Hence, we need to postpone our wedding date. I have no idea when should our wedding date postpone to, so do my bf. My bf decided to get a consultant to help us in choosing the auspicious date for our wedding. But we have no idea on how or who to consult. After some research, I found out that there are a few ways in choosing an auspicious date such as consulting:-
- a chinese monk; or
- a fortune teller.

or searching on your own using:-
- chinese calendar; or
- chinese almanac.

About a week later, my bf and I discussed about getting a consultant with my family members. My mom told us that she went to a very famous “fortune teller” to choose the date for her. My bf and I, thought of getting the same “fortune teller”, seeing my mother has a very happy family. My mom asked us to write down our date and time of birth in a paper as that are the basic information the “fortune teller” needs. Can’t wait to know when will be the selected date. Wait… Wait… and Wait….
